My Plate

© MMXII V.1.0.2
by Morley Evans

This is the graphic currently being promoted by the United States government to help Americans choose a healthy diet. The government felt that the Food Pyramid was too confusing.

Do you notice anything missing, perhaps wrong?

There are three general categories of nutrition, not counting water or air: carbohydrates, protein and fat. Fruits, Vegetables, and Grains are carbohydrates. Protein is protein, but it usually comes with fat unless one chooses lean as the government and health experts advise. Dairy will certainly be fat-free dairy products like fat free cheese and skim milk. So fat is completely missing, absent, not there, gone.

For decades, everyone's main obsession has been fat. Everyone is trying to lose weight. Everyone believes that they are fat because they eat fat. Everyone has been removing fat but they keep getting fatter. Everyone thinks that fat is cholesterol and they cause heart disease. Fat, fat, fat.

Jack Sprat could eat no fat
His wife could eat no lean
And so betwixt the two of them
They licked the platter clean
